- Written as a solo vehicle for trumpet sensation Bobby Shew. An up tempo street samba with some rock sections. A lyrical flugelhorn melody and solo section is followed by a soaring lead trumpet line also performed by the soloist. Requires a strong lead trumpet player/soloist.Diff solo. Med-diff band.

RALPH'S PIANO WALTZ
- Comp by John Abercrombie, arr by Dave Eshelman. This is a jazz classic waltz with a beautiful, haunting melody and progression. The tune serves as an improvisors springboard combining energy and motion with the effectiveness of simplicity and understatement. This arrangement is a feature that can be performed by any soloist or combination of soloists. Comes with bass clef, treble clef, Bb and Eb solo parts.

- This chart is a contemporary medium-swing chart with a two-beat - 4/4 interplay. The sweeping and arching melodic lines of the main theme contrast the more angular lines of the interlude. Solos are for tenor and trumpet with a churning background that builds to the final shout section.

- this chart was commissioned by Stanford University to commemorate the work of tenor giant Stan Getz. The chart features a solo tenor sax which can be performed in a traditional five piece sax section or by an added tenor soloist. Solo is followed by an extended ensemble shout. Diff.

THE WHARTON CONCERTO
- The Wharton Concerto is a concerto for bass trombone and jazz band. The bass trombone part incorporates fast moving lines with a complete use of the range and will challenge any good bass trombonist. The solo bass trombone is not required to improvise and there is a featured improvised solo for tenor saxophone. The chart also calls for four flutes. The solo part is difficult and the band parts are moderately difficult.

WHEN DREAMS COME TRUE
- A tenor feature alternating btwn an even 8th (downbeat accent) & a half time funk. Features an extensive development section based on the two main themes. Builds from beginning to end with all trumpets sounding the main theme independently at the same time during the climax. Strong ending. Diff. WE'RE OUTTA HERE - A spirited funk shuffle, packed with explosive and ensemble passages, punctuated by arresting moments of silence. The chart begins and ends with a contemporary brass chorale, and the interludes between solos simulate New Oreleans-style group improvisation.

MYSTIQUE - Commissioned by the Martin Murphy Jazz Band, this fascinating up-tempo jazz waltz employs flugelhorns, vibraphone, bass clarinet, flute, and soprano sax to create an alluring musical tapestry. The rising and falling first theme and counterline create a compelling melodic duo over a bass pedal, and is contrasted by the more quickly moving, harmonically-varied second theme. Solos for soprano sax and trumpet are separated by a four-voice fugue. It concludes with aleatoric piano and guitar figures

STRAYHORN
- This piece recalls the spirit of of Billy and Duke's collaboration thru the use of traditional jazz harmonic devices, a "stride" piano soli, and an alto sax solo reminiscent of Johnny Hodges, Duke's long-time lead alto. The last note of the piece recalls the accomplishments of Harry Carney, Duke's closest traveling companion, and a supreme baritone saxophonist. This is a hauntingly lush ballad.

STEP IT UP BLUES - This medium tempo chart really swings as ascending dominant chords lay the groundwork for a memorable main theme, imaginative section dialogue, and a driving shout ending. Solo sections based upon expanded forms of the traditional blues progression give alto sax and trumpet plenty of room to blow.

I WILL TAKE YOU THERE - Sweeping melodic lines and lush harmonies give this medium tempo contemporary jazz chart its open, aerial flavor. Improvised solos for flugelhorn and trombone and the addition of optional ad lib. Auxilliary percussion add to the magical aura.
