Composer's Notes:
Metro

This movement is a portrait of Downtown, where thousands
of paths cross and occasionally converge during any given day
or night. Musical influences: the big band writing of Thad Jones,
Jimmy Lunceford, Fletcher Henderson (the practice of riffs in early
big bands), and the music of Chick Corea, Joe Henderson, and
Art Blakey.

The Rose of the Rose Garden

This is a poetic tribute to Mayor Susan Hammer, expressing San Jose's
gratitude for her continued support to the arts in our fair city. Words
can't say it alone, but emotions bubble to the surface through the music.
Musical influences: Chick Corea, Henry Mancini, American Musical
Theatre, music of the Southwest, and Flora Purim.

Silicon Shuffle
Eccentricity with electricity..1's and 0's by the millions...and yet,
everything just keeps cooking along. It's amazing how diversity and
commonality work hand in hand here. Musical influences:Woody
Herman,Louis Jordan, Michael Brecker, Thad Jones and Albert Collins.

Samba de San Jose
The samba is a festive dance symbolizing the interplay between a multitude
of cultures within the city. It may be the capitol of Silicon Valley, but San
Jose is also a great place to live and play. Musical influences:
Joao Gilberto Airto, Chick Corea, Thad Jones and Marcos Silva.
